And All Through the House
assembled @ 11:16 p.m. on 2001-12-28

Have y'all missed me? I'm at my parents house in Michigan (yippee!), and computer access is not as readily available here as it is at our home in Virginny. And I have been spoiled by DSL. The regular phone line connection here is slooooooow. But it's good to be home. Even if my old bedroom has become my mom's sewing room and my dad's library. Hero's out D&D'ing with the fellas, and Pearl (and my parents) are asleep. So I am here with you.

The weather here is cold, of course. It began snowing the day we arrived and has snowed at least a little every day since. We had a white Christmas! I am not used to the cold like I once was, but there is something very nice and cozy about bundling up in a sweater and thick socks, and snuggling under a warm, heavy blanket with Hero and Pearl.

Speaking of Pearl, she is the belle of the Christmas ball. Everyone's impressed by her knowledge of sign language (she recognizes and responds to the sign for "nursing"). Grandma can't get enough of her; I have to steal her back sometimes. I find myself missing my baby, though I know it is good for Pearl to share her with others, and let her know she is loved by many. She has been such a doll. When I get back to Virginia, I'll put up some pictures of my angel in the green velvet Christmas dress her grandma made for her. And the snowsuit Grandma got her, too. It's far too big for Pearl, and she looks like Randy, the little brother in "A Christmas Story".

I find myself relating differently with my parents, now that I am a parent myself. I am more grown-up, less afraid. I even watched Scary Movie II with them tonight, and if watching a movie full of blatant sexual references with my parents doesn't make me terribly uncomfortable, I suppose I am a grown-up.
